Our world’s current “quarantine” situation has left many of us with a dilemma. Even though it feels like we have all the time in the world, getting work done seems impossible. Managing a full day’s schedule can be a tough challenge to overcome, so I wanted to share some tips on how to stay organized during the odd situation that we’re in.
One thing I’d recommend is following the same schedule that you’d normally be following. Wake up slightly before school starts, change out of your pajamas, and try to do classwork at the same time you would normally be having class. Getting your body used to a specific schedule can get rid of the “what now?” feeling and will set you up for productivity. In my household, my mom makes sure we’re all wearing regular clothes before ten o’clock, as she is a very strong believer in the idea that you can’t get anything done in pajamas.
Although it can be tempting, try not to stay up too late. Even though we don’t have anywhere to be, we still have work to do. When you’re well-rested, you’ll likely be more attentive and in a better mood. This means that you’ll be more productive and get your work done faster, giving you more free time in the afternoons. The best schedule is one that’s flexible and healthy. Take advantage of that and get some sleep!
My last tip would be to use a planner or the reminders app on your phone. I personally like to write down all of my Zoom classes on a little slip of paper at the beginning of each day and keep my planner filled in, even if I think I will remember what I need to do. It’s very easy to get off track if you don’t have a clear visual of all of your tasks. One day, I thought I didn’t need to plan my day and took a nap for most of advisory! After that incident, I learned that even if I don’t have a lot of work to do, I still need a plan.
I hope that some of my tips are useful for you. The pandemic we’re experiencing may be tough on us all, but just remember that we’re all in this together. Remember to help out your friends and stay in touch with them during your free time. Maybe try having a study date on Facetime or Zoom! You’ve got this! Just take it all one day at a time.
