5 Activities you can do that are Quarantine Friendly
April 21, 2020
After being in quarantine for five weeks, people have been feeling a range of different emotions. Some people have been happy about not having to go outside. However, there are other people who can’t stand quarantine and miss their friends. If this is you, I want to share five activities you can still do in quarantine. DISCLAIMER: PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING, EVEN FOR THE ACTIVITIES THAT TAKE PLACE OUTSIDE.
Walks and Bike Rides
One thing I’ve been doing with my family on the weekends is going on walks and bike rides. It’s been a really good way to get fresh air, get outside, and take my mind off of everything going on. Of course, I encourage anyone who wants to do this to find a park/area with few people, because the CDC is still encouraging everyone to stay 6 feet apart. If you don’t feel comfortable going outside, the Laurel Leaf has workouts you can do in the comfort of your own home, inside or in your yard. You can check those out here in our Health Corner.
Journaling
If you’ve been struggling with being in quarantine and not getting to see your friends, journaling can help improve your mental health. According to the University of Rochester Medical Center, journaling can help you to manage anxiety, reduce stress, and improve your mood. It could be very beneficial to write down your feelings if you have been feeling discouraged or upset. If you’d like to learn more about journaling, you can click here.

Have a Digital Movie Night with your Friends/Advisory
If you’ve been having a hard time being away from your friends during quarantine, one thing you can do is have a digital movie night with your friends or advisory using Netflix Party. It’s a fun way to connect with friends, without leaving your house. Just grab a few friends, choose a movie, grab some snacks, and enjoy! You can download Netflix Party here using Google Chrome. Click here if you need some ideas for movies to watch.
Cooking/Baking
Quarantine is a great time to learn or improve new cooking and baking skills. You can research recipes to make a meal, or dessert. Cooking is an important life skill, and learning recipes and techniques now will serve you well in the future. If you want some ideas for healthy recipes, you can check out some we’ve published on our Health Corner here.
Clean out your room
Being in quarantine, we all have plenty of time to do some spring cleaning. Go through your closet and find clothes you don’t wear anymore, or items you no longer use. Once quarantine is over, you can donate these items to a shelter that is taking donations.
These are just a few ideas of what you can be doing during quarantine. I hope these helped, and remember to stay inside and keep social distancing.
