After school on Wednesday, January 29th, the Middle School Gold basketball team will be competing in the last game of the playoffs to conclude their season. With a record of 8-0, their season has been largely successful. “We’ve had a great season so far,” says Zayna Khalifa, a sixth grader on the team. “We plan on doing everything that we can to bring home the championship to AGS.” Assistant Coach Hopkins reflected on their successful season in a few meaningful words, “We are proud of the girls no matter what the outcome of the game is today. This team is very special because they enjoy competing, working together, supporting each other, and learning as much as they can about the game.” Head Coach Campbell is very proud of his team’s major success, and says, “The team’s hard work and dedication over the course of their season has been outstanding, and I am glad to see their hard work pay off in the playoffs.” As a tribute to the NBA All-Star Kobe Bryant and the nine people who have sadly passed this Sunday in a helicopter crash, Coach Hopkins comments, “The girls have decided to dedicate to their playoff run to the passed middle school athletes Gianna Bryant, Alyssa Atobelli, and Payton Chester, because they no longer are able to play the game that they loved.” This inspiring commitment is a wonderful reflection of our three AGS basketball teams’ gratitude to be able to step onto the court and play every day. Our Gold Hurricanes will be facing Cliff Valley tonight in the finals, after beating Atlanta Jewish Academy on Monday 35-19. Good luck!
